Daith Piercing

The Daith Piercing is a very unique and cool Ear Piercing worn by many people to highlight the ear. This piercing is located centrally inside the pinna and is pierced through the cartilage fold just above the ear canal. The daith has also been one of the most popular ear piercing trends for many years. It not only has an aesthetic function, but is also said to have a healing effect against migraines. You can read more about this in the guide below.

Buy Daith Piercing

Here in our shop you will find a large assortment of Piercings jewellery with which the Daith Piercing can be decorated. The selection includes plain rings as well as elaborately decorated rings with beautiful motives. The variety of colours, shapes and designs gives you many possibilities to individualise your Daith piercing.

The most important information about the Daith piercing is summarised in this article. We will inform you about everything you need to know about piercing, care, risks and more here.

Daith piercing jewellery

Mostly piercing rings are used for Daith piercings. Many types of rings can be used. Segment Clicker Piercing are the most popular. But Segmentring Piercing, Horseshoe Piercing and CBR Piercing rings are also popular at this point. The Daith most often uses Piercing Ring with a diameter of about 10 mm - 12 mm. The bar thickness is usually 1.2 mm - 1.6 mm.

Small curved barbells (bananas) are also used for the Daith. A curved barbell is almost always used as initial Jewelry for easier healing. Ring are less suitable as a first piercing because they move more in the stitch canal. Some also prefer the discreet look of the banana and also wear it in the healed Daith Piercing. The bar thickness here is also 1.2 mm - 1.6 mm, while the bar length is in the range of about 6 mm - 8 mm.

Daith jewellery can be made of different materials. The most popular materials are Titanium Ear Piercing, 14 carat Gold Ear Piercing and Surgical Steel Piercing due to their excellent characteristics. Especially titanium and 14 carat gold are very high quality and skin-friendly. They are therefore also suitable for allergy sufferers or people with sensitive skin. In addition, both offer a pleasant wearing sensation and high resistance. Surgical steel is also popular because the inexpensive material is robust and well tolerated.

In our shop you will find a variety of beautiful ear piercing jewellery which can be worn in the daith piercing. Oval rings in half moon shape offer a beautiful and interesting look. Daith jewellery pieces with filigree designs emphasise your charisma with their loving details. Segment clickers adorned with Zirconia Piercing make for an elegant looking ear. Rings and horseshoes in different colours such as gold, silver or rainbow embellish the ear and provide variety. Segmental clickers with zirconia or ball studded bars provide a unique daith look.

Daith as a migraine piercing

The daith piercing has been said for a long time to have a healing effect against migraines. The Daith is supposed to help migraines by applying pressure to certain acupuncture points that have a pain-relieving effect. However, it is unclear whether such a point is actually located in the ear and whether constant pressure at this point can help. This is because in traditional acupuncture the points are stimulated with narrow needles, which are removed again at the end of the session.

However, many migraine sufferers report positive experiences with the Daith Piercing. With the piercing of the Daith, the migraine is said to have disappeared completely in some wearers. For many, the pain is said to have partially subsided. However, there are also many Daith wearers for whom the piercing did not help.

These are only individual reports of experiences. There are no scientific studies that can clearly prove the truth of this claim. Therefore, although the Daith Piercing is able to help some sufferers against migraines through a placebo effect, it is not a guaranteed medical remedy.

Daith Piercing

When piercing the Daith, the piercer will first thoroughly disinfect the cartilage fold and mark the entry and exit points. Then a pair of Receiving Tube forceps is held to one side of the cartilage fold and the piercing is pierced on the other side with a slightly curved hollow needle. In this way, the needle is guided safely through the cartilage tissue without accidentally damaging other areas. The Jewelry is then inserted into the new piercing channel. This process normally takes only a few seconds.

The first jewellery change can take place after about three months. This should be done by the piercer, who can determine individually whether this is the right time.

The Daith piercing is one of the most painful Ear Piercing. The fold through which the daith is pierced consists of relatively thick cartilage tissue. The piercing canal of a daith therefore runs through a long cartilage surface, which means that the pain is also greater.

An alternative to pricking is punching the daith. Here, part of the tissue is punched out. This removes cartilage tissue instead of displacing it, as is the case with puncturing. For this reason, punching is less painful. In addition, punched daiths heal faster than pierced ones.

The costs for a daith piercing depend on the chosen studio and the region. Therefore, they can vary a lot. On average you should plan on 40€ - 80€.

Daith Piercing Care and Healing

The healing phase of a daith piercing takes about 6 to 9 months. This longer period can be explained by the cartilage tissue through which the Daith is pierced.

The stitch canal should be disinfected twice a day during the first weeks. The care of the slightly hidden area of the daith can be a little tricky. The best thing to do here is to carefully clean the wound in good light and with several mirrors pointed at each other. However, because of the hidden spot, the daith is also more protected than other ear piercings and a little easier to handle in everyday life.

During the first weeks after the piercing, no swimming pools, saunas or solariums should be visited. Sports should also be avoided during this time.

Hair care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hairspray, etc. should be used as little and carefully as possible during the first weeks. It is best to replace shampoo and conditioner with milder versions to protect the wound. If you have long hair, it is also advisable to tie it up so that it does not irritate the stitch canal.

All objects that come into contact with the ear should be as germ-free as possible. This includes the telephone, headphones, glasses and also the pillow. These should be cleaned regularly. The pillowcase should be washed at least once a week.

Dyeing the hair is prohibited for the first 6 - 8 weeks, because irritating chemicals from the hair dye can easily get into the piercing wound. This would considerably delay healing and cause unnecessary complications.

When clothing is pulled over the head, slow and careful handling is recommended. Otherwise, the clothing may get caught on the daith and irritate the piercing.

Daith piercing risks

As with any piercing, adverse reactions can occur with the daith. This section tells you how to minimise these risks and get the most out of your daith.

Inflammation can occur with any type of piercing. However, with the Daith there is a greater risk due to the long healing phase. Initial bleeding, swelling and slight redness are normal. Clear or white wound fluid that dries to a crust is also not a cause for concern. More serious signs, however, are yellow or green pus that gives off a bad smell. This may be accompanied by severe pain or redness. In case of these signs of infection, the piercer or doctor should be consulted immediately.

As the Daith is a cartilage piercing, the risk of wild flesh formation is increased here. Cartilage piercings are more prone to the formation of game flesh than other types of piercings. Therefore, care should be as careful as possible. If hardening still forms around the piercing site, further measures can be discussed with the piercer.

If you want to get the Daith piercing exclusively for migraine, you have to be aware of a few things. The Daith Piercing is not a guarantee against migraine. It does not work for everyone. Many people report only reduced pain intensity rather than a complete cure. If you are one of those for whom the Daith Piercings helps against migraine, it can still happen that the effect wears off after some time. For some, the headache returns after the Daith has healed. Therefore, when getting the Daith piercing as a migraine piercing, one should always keep in mind that the piercing is not a medically recognised procedure that is guaranteed to work.
