Eyebrow Piercing

An eyebrow piercing is an exceptionally beautiful and unique piece of facial jewelry. With one or even multiple piercings through the eyebrow, your face gets an extraordinary look and is beautifully accentuated. Depending on your facial structure, this piercing can also create a certain symmetry in your face.

In our shop, you will find a variety of beautiful eyebrow jewelry in different colors and materials. Our assortment includes simple and elegant curved barbells, piercing rings, and horseshoe piercings for a sleek look. But we also offer eye-catching pieces with motifs like animals, skulls, stars, and angel wings for your eyebrows that are guaranteed to turn heads.

You can find out everything you need to know about eyebrow piercings, from piercing jewelry to the piercing process and potential risks, right here in this guide.

Eyebrow Piercing Types

Types of eyebrow piercings

An eyebrow piercing can be done in various ways. The most well-known and common variation is the vertically pierced eyebrow. The piercing is placed in the outer third of the eyebrow. Less commonly, the placement of the eyebrow piercing can also be in the middle or the inner third.

Eyebrows can also be pierced horizontally. Here, piercings can be placed above, below, or right in the middle of the eyebrow. With this type, the eyebrow piercing can also be placed anywhere along the brow. The outer third is the most popular placement here as well.

The anti-eyebrow piercing is a lesser-known variation of the eyebrow piercing. In this piercing type, the needle doesn't go along or through the eyebrow. Instead, the anti-eyebrow piercing is placed above the cheekbone. This is a surface piercing. Due to its horizontal placement, the anti-eyebrow mirrors the horizontal eyebrow piercing. This mirroring effect is also how the anti-eyebrow piercing gets its name.

If a single eyebrow piercing is too simple for you, you can also get multiple eyebrow piercings next to each other on one or both eyebrows. This double variation or a combination of different eyebrow piercing types looks very unique and definitely draws attention.

The Right Eyebrow Jewelry

Jewelry for eyebrow piercings

Your eyebrows can be adorned with various types of piercing jewelry. A curved barbell, piercing ring, and horseshoe piercing are especially popular for the eyebrow. For rings, you can use either a CBR ring, segment ring, or segment clicker.

Piercing jewelry for eyebrows can be made of different materials. Titanium and 14 karat gold are the highest quality materials and therefore the most popular choices. Surgical steel eyebrow piercings are also frequently purchased, as this affordable material has many benefits as well.

In our shop, you will find a wide range of different eyebrow jewelry in various colors and designs. A curved barbell is available in interesting motifs like ship anchors, bats, or eyeballs. Filigree eyebrow piercings with flower motifs or crescent moon designs give the wearer a delicate and feminine touch.

Jewelry pieces made of 14 karat gold ensure an unforgettably luxurious appearance.

The bar length of an eyebrow piercing is usually about 8 mm. Depending on your anatomy, the piercing channel and thus the bar length of the jewelry can also be longer or shorter. The bar thickness is most commonly 1,2 mm. For rings and horseshoes, the diameter is often around 10 mm. The ball size of the curved barbell or horseshoe is frequently about 3 – 4 mm.

Getting an Eyebrow Piercing

You should always visit a professional studio with an experienced piercer to get an eyebrow piercing. Before piercing, the eyebrow is disinfected and the entry and exit points are marked. It doesn't matter whether the piercing is done on the left or right eyebrow, as the positioning is entirely up to your taste and facial structure. Once you are happy with the placement, the piercer will secure the marked spots with a clamp, gently lift the skin, and pierce the eyebrow with a hollow needle from bottom to top. This process usually takes only a few seconds.

Since the eyebrow piercing can swell in the first few days, a slightly longer curved barbell is used as the initial jewelry. Usually, the bar length of the initial jewelry is about 10 mm. After healing and once the swelling goes down, the piercer will change the jewelry to a smaller size during a follow-up appointment.

While the pain of an eyebrow piercing is subjective, just like with any piercing, reports suggest that the pain is less intense compared to other types of piercings. Since the eyebrow piercing only goes through soft tissue and not cartilage, you should only feel a minor pinch.

The cost of an eyebrow piercing ranges from about 40€ - 70€. The price can be determined individually by the piercer and studio depending on the region.

Care and Healing

Care for your eyebrow piercing

With the right care, your eyebrow piercing can heal quickly and without any issues. The healing time in this case is about 6 to 8 weeks. This period only extends if there are complications. An exception to this is the anti-eyebrow piercing. With this variation, healing takes significantly longer, at about 3 to 4 months.

After getting pierced, the brow may swell slightly. To relieve this swelling, you can carefully cool the area. Ice cubes wrapped in a towel or cooling packs are very helpful for this.

The piercing sites should be disinfected twice a day with special piercing care products to prevent infection. You should always wash and disinfect your hands thoroughly beforehand so you don't transfer any bacteria into the fresh wound. Crusts that form around the piercing can be soaked and carefully removed.

During sports activities or on warm days, you might sweat near your eyebrows. You should gently dab this away with a lint-free cloth so the sweat doesn't run into the piercing channel.

Creams and cosmetics should be avoided in the eyebrow area until it is fully healed, so that no irritating ingredients get into the piercing channel and delay the healing process. Dyeing your hair should also be avoided during the healing time for this reason. Additionally, you should use the mildest possible care products when showering and washing your face.

When getting dressed and undressed, you should be especially careful until it's healed, as snagging the jewelry on your clothes would further irritate the eyebrow piercing.

Generally, you should avoid visiting the swimming pool, solarium, and sauna for the first two weeks after getting pierced. These places carry an increased risk of infection for a freshly done piercing.

After complete healing, the eyebrow piercing can be changed for the first time. You can try this yourself, but since your hands are right in front of your eyes while changing it, swapping the jewelry can be a bit tricky. That's why a visit to your piercer is recommended for the first few jewelry changes.

Risks

Just like any other piercing, getting an eyebrow piercing also carries certain risks. Since the eyebrow piercing is right on your face, a smooth healing process is especially important here. Any piercing complications are particularly noticeable on the face and should be avoided as much as possible.

An infection of the piercing channel is fundamentally possible with any piercing. To avoid this with your eyebrow piercing, thorough and regular care of the piercing sites is necessary until it's fully healed. If the piercing wound gets infected anyway, a doctor is the right person to contact to prevent further complications and to treat the infection.

An eyebrow piercing can also easily cause ingrown hairs, as the piercing is right in the path of the hair growth. The ingrown hair can become inflamed and fester. Plucking the ingrown eyebrow hair can help with the symptoms. If you are not sure whether the piercing or the hair is infected, a visit to your piercer is worthwhile. They will know what it is and give you appropriate advice.

Piercings placed in the front area of the brows must absolutely be done by an experienced piercer, as the trigeminal nerve runs along here. This nerve must not be hit, because in the worst-case scenario, it can cause facial paralysis.

Since the eyebrow piercing is a surface piercing, the jewelry can migrate and grow out faster and easier. With thicker eyebrows, this risk is lower. The more skin available, the less pressure the eyebrow jewelry exerts on the bone. Therefore, before getting pierced, you should pinch your eyebrow to see if there is enough skin tissue for this type of piercing.

Another potential risk is a black eye after getting an eyebrow piercing. An initial swelling of the eyebrow is also possible after piercing. However, both are harmless and usually disappear within a few days.

After an eyebrow piercing closes up, a scar may remain at the piercing sites. However, this can often be easily covered by your eyebrow hairs if the piercing was placed close enough to the eyebrow.
