Segment Rings
The segment ring belongs to one of the many variations of the Piercing Ring. Segment rings can be used at different piercing points. The special type of closure ensures a particularly firm fit, so that the ring cannot get lost.
Buy Segment Ring
Segment rings are available in numerous colours and designs in our shop. The simple segment rings in colours like silver and gold are particularly popular. We also have more eye-catching segment rings set with zirconia or opal stones. Segment rings with interesting finishes like ropes or facets give the wearer a unique touch.
Segment rings are available in many different sizes and bar thicknesses. The bar thickness starts at 1.2 mm and goes up to 5 mm, while the diameter can range from 6 mm / 8 mm / 10 mm up to 14 mm. So we have both delicate and thick segment rings available, which can be purchased individually to suit your own piercing.
Segment ring - suitable piercing locations
The segment ring can be used in many different body regions. On the face, a segment ring can be worn on the nose, ears, lips and eyebrows. Ear piercings that most commonly use segment rings include the Helix Piercing and the Tragus Piercing. Among the nose piercings, the segment ring enjoys great popularity especially with the septum. The segment ring is also often used on the nipples. Depending on the piercing site, the diameter and the bar thickness of the jewellery varies.
Closing and opening the segment ring
One third of the segment ring is completely removable. The opening and closing of the segment ring works through this small removable pin, the so-called segment. When open, small tips can be seen at both ends of the small ring part. These points are inserted into the small holes at the two ends of the large ring part.
When opening, the larger part of the segment ring is held with the fingers of one hand. Now the small segment pin is removed either with the fingers of the other hand or with the help of piercing pliers. To do this, pressure is applied to one end of the removable pin, causing the other end to sit more loosely in the larger segment ring part. The loose end of the pin is simultaneously pulled outwards and the pin can be removed from the ring.
Closing is similar. The larger part of the ring is grasped with one hand and inserted halfway into the piercing hole, while the small segment pin is inserted with the other hand. First one side of the pin is inserted into the larger part of the ring. Now pressure is applied here while at the same time the other side of the segment pin is pushed into the small hole in the piercing ring.
At the beginning this mechanism can be a bit difficult to understand. However, with a little practice and the right piercing tools, inserting and removing a segment ring is quick and easy. If you still cannot open or close the ring after several attempts, you can simply go to a piercer. The piercer will insert the jewellery into the piercing hole in no time.
If you are still not comfortable with a segment ring, you can also use segment clickers or hinged segment rings. Segment Clickers offer similar and sometimes more elaborate looks to Segment Rings, while the practical hinge guarantees an easier closing mechanism.
Segment Ring Materials
Segment rings are made from many different materials. In particular, the metals Surgical Steel Piercing, Titanium Piercing and 14 carat Gold Piercing are preferred for segment rings. Segment rings made of the different materials offer different advantages.
Surgical steel segment rings are particularly cheap and yet offer high quality. Segment rings made of this material cannot discolour or rust and are very robust.
Titanium segment rings are especially suitable for people with allergies, as titanium does not contain nickel. Piercing rings made of titanium are therefore also suitable as first jewellery. Titanium segment rings are very smooth and light, which makes them very comfortable to wear. Titanium segment rings can also neither rust nor discolour.
14 carat gold segment rings are particularly high quality due to the precious material. Segment rings made of 14 carat gold are timeless and allow for an elegant look. The precious metal is scratch-resistant and durable, making the luxurious piercing a long-lasting investment.
