Reverse belly button piercings: the jewel sits on top, only a small ball below. Over 50 styles in surgical steel and titanium – find your favourite now!

A reverse belly button piercing turns the classic design around: the decorative part with stones, charms or a motif sits at the upper end of the bar, above your navel. Inside the navel there is only a small, plain ball. You may also know it as a top down belly button piercing, an inverse belly ring or an upside down belly ring – it is all the same idea. A reverse belly button piercing from PiercingXXL puts the sparkle exactly where it is seen and keeps the navel clean and calm.
Reverse or Classic: the Difference
A classic belly ring carries the large jewelled ball or the dangle at the bottom, inside the navel, and a small ball on top. A reverse belly ring does it the other way round. Most often the bar is curved like a classic Curved Barbell Piercing – only the decoration is screwed onto the upper end. The titanium push-in models, by contrast, sit on a straight bar with a flat disc that rests inside the navel.
- Charms that fall downwards: Many reverse designs carry a motif on top with little zirconia chains, drops or hearts hanging from it. They rest above the navel and catch the light with every move.
- Flat crowns and clusters: Other designs sit as a small crown, a row of stones or a flower flat against the upper rim of the navel – subtle enough for every day.
- A calm lower end: Since only a small ball or a flat disc sits at the bottom, nothing presses into the navel when you sit or bend. Many people who love high-waisted trousers appreciate exactly that.
Jewel below
Jewel on topMaterials: Surgical Steel and Titanium
- 316L surgical steel: Most of our reverse belly rings have a bar made of 316L surgical steel, just like every Surgical Steel Belly Button Piercing. The decorative part with the zirconia is made of brass and sits outside the piercing channel.
- Titanium ASTM F136: For sensitive skin we recommend implant-grade titanium. A Titanium Belly Button Piercing is light, very well tolerated and nickel-free.
- Titanium push-in: Part of the selection is built as Push-In Piercing: a straight titanium bar with a flat disc. The top is fitted into the bar with a fine pin and held by gentle tension – no thread at all. Changing is quick, and no thread rubs through the piercing channel.
The gauge is always 1.6 mm (14G), the length usually 8 mm or 10 mm. Our guide Piercing Sizes helps you find the right length.
Styling Ideas for Your Reverse Belly Ring
- Summer crop tops: A reverse charm with fine chains looks like a delicate body chain above a bikini or crop top.
- Subtle every day: A flat crown or a row of five stones disappears under your shirt and still sparkles whenever you show it.
- Match your jewellery: Silver, gold-tone and rose-gold-tone finishes go well with your rings, necklaces and ear jewellery.
- Motifs with meaning: Heart, butterfly, moon or cross – the favourite motifs are available as reverse belly rings, too.
